The card game
called Blackjack derived directly from an old entertainment
called "twenty-one" whose origin is unknown but the first
references appear in Europe in the early seventeenth century.
Because it is really easy to play Blackjack, not only became
popular worldwide, but was also adopted by the U.S. casinos in
the early twentieth century.
Blackjack history until today is uncertain. However, generally
accepted theory which is an evolution of a series of French
games such as "chemin de fer. It is said that Blackjack
originated in French casinos around 1900. In those days was
known as "vingt-et-un" (twenty) and already in 1800 the game was
installed in the United States. It says the name "Blackjack"
comes from a type of bet that was used early in the game, which
was that if a player pulled a J of spades
and an Ace of Spades, the bet paid 10 to 1. In the late 50s and
during the 60's, were published some estimates showing as some
advanced players, could play alongside the house and even
surpass them slightly.
There is
controversy over whether the Blackjack is just a game of chance
or if it goes beyond, those defending the latter view is based,
for example, in studies conducted by Edward Thorp in the early
1960s and who established the famous count of cards in
Blackjack. This system can track the possible hands that are
played, thereby reducing the advantage that casinos have on the
players. In the version of the casinos, you can play blackjack
up to seven participants simultaneously, which are located in a
semicircular table spaces defined for each of them and for the
dealer, which is located on the opposite side facing all
players.
The goal when playing Blackjack is to score twenty-one using the
cards distributed by the dealer. The game starts when he gives
each player two cards face up and, according to version, you can
leave for another one or two cards face up.
With the cards on, players can decide whether to "plant" or ask
for more cards, trying to get to twenty, or a figure that
exceeds the amount which it considers will the dealer. It can
also be more cards but is obliged to stand if it comes to
seventeen. It is said that someone has obtained Blackjack when
he does add blackjack with just two letters, bearing in mind
that cards are worth ten and the ace can be worth one or eleven,
the rest respects the value set on them.
Blackjack is a gambling game that is very similar to Seven and a
half but, unlike him, to equality of points between the Bank and
a player, nothing gained or lost. The casinos took some
advantage of this explosion that took the game and gained
popularity among the public and the media. To reverse this, tried to change the rules of
blackjack so, it was harder to win. Obviously, those rules did
